Surprise adopters of workplace AI

Freshworks’ new report reveals AI support in legal departments

AI adoption at work is a curve, not a cliff, with employees from even the most cautious departments (hello, legal) regularly using the tech, according to a new Freshworks study. Writing in the latest issue of Fortune’s CIO Intelligence newsletter, journalist John Kell examines that adoption curve.

As Kell points out, legal might be in last place in terms of adoption rates, but with 45% of surveyed legal department employees reporting weekly AI usage, enthusiasm is strong.

"If anyone would be at the frontlines of using AI, you'd expect it to be the techies of course. ... More surprising is the finding that in-house legal departments, famous for being the most risk-averse wonks within an organization, are big on AI. According to the report, nearly half of workers in legal departments say they now use AI technology on a weekly basis."
